Starting Date of Elected Trustees Terms Change - Public Act 93-847 - Effective 7/30/04

Public Act 93-847 which was passed and approved in 2004 as an election "technical corrections" law modifies the beginning date of terms of elected fire protection district trustees. Section 4a of the Fire Protection District Act (70 ILCS 705/4a) has been amended by PA 93-847 to change the starting date to the third Monday of the month following the election for trustees. Previously, the term starting date was the first Monday. The change means that trustees elected at the April 5, 2005 election will begin their terms on May 16, 2005. Their predecessors in office will continue to serve until that date. Public Act 93-847 has no effect on the term starting dates of appointed trustees of fire protection districts.
