The Illinois House Task Force on EMS held 17 different EMS hearings all around Illinois in 2011 and gathered a lot of very important information from our dedicated EMS providers. As Winston Churchill is said, “This is not the end”, and we believe this report is not the end but really just the “end of the beginning”. It will be up to the General Assembly and our EMS providers to continue the effort to help advance EMS in Illinois.
On December 4, 2012, dozens of emergency medicine professionals, including EMTs, Fire Chiefs, physicians and statewide EMS representatives stood from around the state to send an important message - EMS IS ESSENTIAL IN ILLINOIS. To learn more about the Illinois EMS Alliance click here.

12/7/2012 - HONOR GUARD TRAINING
The Elmhurst Honor Guard Academy, a division of the Elmhurst Fire Dept., would like to inform your department that our 2013 honor guard training schedule is now available. Since 2006 our academy has been instructing law enforcement and fire service personnel in all aspects of honor guard procedures and funeral details. Whether it’s line of duty, non-line of duty, or retiree, each year departments and agencies are left to deal with the loss of their members. It is essential that your department’s honor guard be prepared and perform their duties correctly and with respect. The unique training offered in our classes and by our instructors will insure confidence and knowledge to all honor guard members, regardless of their experience.
This year we will again be hosting, incorporation with the Clark Co. Fire Academy, HonCon2013 Honor Guard Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Complete details on all our classes and events, including descriptions, dates, and registration information, can be found on our website at www.honorguardtraining.org or by calling (630) 530-3090. Questions? Contact Eric Hedman, Academy Coordinator/Elmhurst F.D.
11/05/2012 - Florida builder offers free fire sprinklers in new homes
Sam Davis, president/CEO of Island Harbor Construction in Cape Coral, FL, offers a free fire sprinkler system in all new homes he builds. “Fire sprinklers do save property, but their main function is to save lives,” he says.
When someone asks him about fire sprinklers he tells them, “You can spend a fortune on appliances, cabinets and granite countertops but those things will do nothing to protect your family against a fire.”
Mr. Davis says that the benefit to his company is that they are actively promoting a system that will save lives. “I’m waiting for the day, although I hope it never ever happens, that we get a call that one of our systems activates, and if it does, that it saved someone’s life. A home fire sprinkler system is well worth the investment."
His website actively promotes home fire sprinklers and includes a link to the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, where consumers and others who visit, can receive information on home fire sprinkler systems.
When we visited Sam in Cape Coral to video tape his story his company, along with Wayne Automatic, was retrofitting the home of a disabled veteran. While so many home builders fight against home fire sprinklers it is a breath of fresh air to know him and see how passionate he is about installing fire sprinkler systems in the homes he builds.
