Ilinois Colleges offering fire science that meet the IAFPD Foundation Guidelines

Mission Statement

The Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts Foundation is an educational and charitable Foundation, organized for the purpose of advancing the Illinois fire service through fire protection district trustees, administrators and personnel who provide emergency services to the citizens of Illinois.

About Us: Every community relies on their local fire department to keep their population safe. Given todays political climate, we now know that fire departments serve beyond just putting out fires. In addition to being first responders for various non-fire related emergencies, fire personnel also serve as our first line of defense for catastrophic events.

As the fire service continues to take new shape and be redefined, there is a greater need to ensure that both administrators and personnel receive the necessary training and equipment to adequately perform their job.

Created in 2003 as a not-for-profit 501 c-(3) tax exempt organization, the Foundation was formed with these objectives:

  • Educate the general public on fire prevention and safety.

  • Establish and maintain a scholarship program to promote the field of fire science in Illinois.

  • Conduct research in the field of fire science.

  • Assist in ensuring that fire service administrators and personnel receive proper training and equipment to adequately serve the citizens of Illinois.

The Foundation receives funding through private donations from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations.

  • Annual Foundation Activities:

  • Provides 31 scholarships to those individuals pursuing a career in the field of fire science.

  • Provides fire prevention and safety education to thousands of children at the Illinois State Fair each year.

  • Seeks grants and funding for the purpose of assisting Illinois fire protection districts in meeting the needs of their local communities.
